First Generation – 1G
First generation Launched by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone in 1979,
1G delivered only analog voice service
Second Generation – 2G
Second generation was Launched in 1990s, in 2G introduced digital voice
( CDMA – Code Division Multiple Access)
Third Generation – 3G
The first pre-commercial 3G network was launched by NTT DoCoMo in Japan in 1998, branded as FOMA. It was first available in May 2001 as a pre-release (test) of W-CDMA technology.

Fourth Generation – 4G LTE
